Production Co-ordinator

A5 Recruitment Ltd is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this permanent vacancy.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £29,500 per annum
Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:30am–5:00pm, Friday 8:30am–4:00pm
Location: Chadderton, OL9 (office-based)

Our client is a well-established precision engineering, machining and fabrication business in Chadderton, supporting customers with everything from planned engineering work to urgent breakdown and repair – including a 24/7 engineering service. They are looking for a capable, commercially minded Production Co-ordinator to take ownership of day-to-day purchasing and production support.

This is a hands-on role making sure the engineers and workshop have the right materials, components and subcontract services – at the right price, at the right time. You’ll work closely with the engineering, production and management teams, develop supplier relationships, and help the business get greater control over costs, lead times and material availability.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Purchasing raw materials for machining and fabrication – steels, stainless steels, aluminium and other engineering materials
  • Sourcing engineering components, tooling, consumables and other workshop requirements
  • Obtaining and comparing supplier quotations, challenging pricing and negotiating where appropriate
  • Raising purchase orders and keeping purchasing records accurate and up to date
  • Expediting orders and proactively chasing suppliers to keep jobs moving through the workshop
  • Responding quickly when urgent materials or components are needed for breakdown and time-critical work
  • Purchasing and coordinating subcontract services – specialist machining, heat treatment, coatings, finishing and other external processes
  • Working closely with engineers and production to understand job requirements, specifications and delivery priorities
  • Monitoring material and subcontract costs against individual jobs, and supporting stock control
  • Building strong supplier relationships while identifying alternative, more competitive suppliers and negotiating improved pricing, lead times and terms
  • Monitoring supplier performance across cost, quality, reliability and delivery, and resolving shortages, incorrect deliveries, certification issues and invoice queries
  • General office administration support as required (answering phones, inputting job planning, filing, scanning and maintaining job-related documents)

What You’ll Need

  • Previous purchasing, procurement or buying experience within engineering, manufacturing, fabrication or a similar environment
  • A good understanding of engineering materials and components, and the ability to read and understand material specifications and purchasing requirements
  • Confidence dealing with suppliers and negotiating on price and lead time
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple live requirements
  • Good commercial awareness and an eye for opportunities to reduce costs
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable working with engineers, suppliers and management
  • Experience using purchasing, stock control or ERP/MRP systems, and good Microsoft Office skills

Desirable: experience purchasing materials and subcontract services specifically for precision machining and fabrication.

What’s on Offer

  • £29,500 per annum
  • Monday to Friday, office-based (Monday to Thursday 8:30am–5:00pm, Friday 8:30am–4:00pm)
  • 33 days’ holiday including statutory allowance
